, the founder of healing for our families and our nation, working hard in san francisco over the last 16 years to stop senseless violence. i lost my youngest son to gun violence in 1996, july 17th. we have been ever since trying to educate the leaders, our children, law enforcement, the board of supervisors and everyone present so that we do have one of the situation. i am happy that my district supervisor, london breed, who grew up where my son was killed 16 years ago, is my supervisor for district 5. welcome london. i appreciate the work that you have done supervisor cohen -- and all the work that we have done. you're both qualified to be the president of the board of supervisors. it would be wonderful to have a female to represent the position. not being biased of the others, because i love you all. but it would be wonderful to have a female in that position. thank you for line this opportunity i'm looking forward to a better year to reduce violence in our city. >> president: thank you. next speaker. >> good afternoon. i am virginia marshall. to president chiu, board of supervisors

and securing funding for transportation here in the city and county of san francisco. i also want to talk about the trend happening locally in terms of revenue measures such as the sales tax and vehicle registration fee that are administered by the authority. one of the things that is important as we move forward is to always look for the most cost-effective ways of doing the work. one of the things that i hope you continue to do is to focus on enhancing coordination among the various city agencies. we saw with a number of projects that were discussed at the authority that while there is communication between these agencies better communication is needed. and one of the things that i hope happens- especially with the major projects - that we continue to focus on how the county transportation authority interacts with the mta and other agencies involved in various projects that we are funding. i know that in the state of the city address, mayor lee indicated that public transportation % specifically the mta is going to be a top priority for him. i know he is putting together a working grou

. cal has more >> reporter: the ship is still out here in the san francisco bay. the 750-tanker hit one of the support towers of the bay bridge yesterday around 11:00 in foggy conditions. authorities say no oil was leak. the ship had just unloaded at a martinez refinery. the coast guard officials told us this morning a little bit more about its investigation. >> we're gonna continue to interview important members of the crew which includes the pilot and we'll also continue to interview members -- coast guard members who responded to the scene and find out what -- try to get more clues as to what happened. >> reporter: ktvu has learned the pilot passed an alcohol test yesterday. that pilot, george kleess, has eight years of experience but has had some problems in the past. now according to state records, kleess ran aground brieffully a sacramento river on august 27th of 2009. then two days later, he ran into some wooden pylons on a catwalk in stockton. caltrans officials say the bridge itself sustained no structural damage as the wood in the metal fenders absorbed the impact just as they

along the waterfront right here in san francisco. beautiful view, big crowds jamming the embarcadero. when it was over the cars jammed all the streets in the area. everyone had to go home. although many are still here. new year's celebration was not 100% peaceful though. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran here in san francisco where at least three revelers were wounded in shootings during the festivities. good morning, cate. >> reporter: good morning, frank. yeah. san francisco police are starting the new year looking for two suspects in two different shootings that injured three people. now, that first shooting happened at 10:40 last night. a victim was taken to the hospital after being shot in the hand. the suspect was described as an adult male. the shooting happened near fish finish at jefferson and mason. less than an hour later a 12- year-old boy and a man were shot near pier 23. the boy was hit in the foot and the man grazed in the hip. police say both suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. so far no arrests have been made. >> it's pretty cold. >> pretty cold is good here. it was aw

skies, 30 degrees in concord. 31 in livermore. 38 in san francisco. 28 in santa rose. this afternoon sunshine and here we go, a couple of 60s showing up in places like san jose. 60 oakland. 62 santa rosa. much warmer days to come too. we'll talk about that in a few moments. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> i like it. those 60s are going to feel good. thank you, lawrence. outside now, things aren't too bad as far as incidents go. we have a lot of overnight roadwork. so just a heads up if you are traveling anywhere in the east bay. this is a live look at the 880 freeway there by the oakland coliseum. southbound 880 from 980 all the way down towards 16th avenue you may find roadwork in lanes. caltrans will pick that up after 5 a.m. elsewhere more roadwork this time on the westbound side of the dumbarton bridge. this is highway 84. not causing much of a delay approaching the toll plaza. eastbound 4 only the left lane blocked until about 5:30 this morning with ongoing roadwork around loveridge. that's traffic. back to you g

in the bay area now, 6:09, san francisco police are taking a new look at a cold case that involved a child who disappeared nearly 30 years ago. the renewed search sent officers to the haight-ashbury neighborhood. they are searching around a house on masonic avenue near page street there. and cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is on the scene with what neighbors remember about the time kevin collins went missing. >> reporter: good morning. there were some bones found in the duplex behind me. they are animal bones but further analysis is necessary. 10-year-old kevin collins was seen a block from here on the way home from school in 1984. witnesses say he was pushed into a car with two teenagers. police aren't saying why they have renewed their search for kevin but we do know cadaver dogs found bones under the concrete floor of the garage in the duplex. police say a man who lived in the house at the time matched the description of a man seen talking to kevin. that person has since died. but we spoke to a neighbor who knew the two men who lived here back in '84. >

coverage of the near disaster on the san francisco bay that we first covered on ktvu channel 2 news at noon yesterday. this morning, the u.s. coast guard will meet with the pilot of the oil tanker that sideswiped a tower of the bay bridge. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live with new details about this bar pilot's past. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning. a coast guard spokesperson tells me there will be an update on this investigation coming after the team is briefed at 8:00 this morning. we do know that investigators will be sitting down later today and talking with the pilot at the controls of this 750-foot oil tanker when it struck one of the bay bridge towers. he's identified as george close with eight years experience. he did pass an alcohol test yesterday and the results of a drug test may come back today. yesterday's accident yesterday after the vessel was heading back to sea. there was heavy fog in the area at the time. that cut visibility on the bay to just about a quarter mile. this double-hauled vessel struck the wood and barrier that sports the bridge on the western sp
